Big news. Our cyclone-rated flatpack modular house reaches the port of Townsville on Wednesday 4 November.

What happens next

The house still has to clear customs. If inspectors find a stowaway bug or rodent and need to fumigate, that could take two or three weeks. It’s frustrating, but those checks protect Australian agriculture, so we wait.

The truck is already booked and paid for. As soon as customs releases the house, it comes up the Palmerston Highway to the Tablelands. We just can’t promise the exact day yet.

We need your vote

We have the energy for one launch event, so we want to get it right. Two choices:

  1. Before Christmas. You see the house sooner, but it won’t be finished.

  2. After Christmas. You see the finished home, but the wet season and any cyclones could push the date back, maybe well into the new year.

Most of the team leans towards waiting until after Christmas. Some of us would rather open the gates sooner. We’ll go with the majority.

Why this house matters

This is the first home in our plan to give essential workers on the Tablelands a stable, affordable place to live. Once we’ve proven it here, we want other regional towns to copy it.
