Two rooms at Lot 8, Rifle Range Road, Atherton, will soon be available for short-term rental to essential workers moving to the area.

The accommodation is intended for people such as teachers, firefighters, medical staff, allied health practitioners and FIFO workers who need somewhere to stay while securing longer-term housing.

Know someone who may be suitable, or an organisation helping essential workers find accommodation?

Hi, everybody. I have some news about Lot 8 on Rifle Range Road. We’re ready to go ahead and put tenants into that house.

We have two rooms available, and we’re going to advertise them on a few different websites. If you know anyone looking for short-term rental accommodation, we want to help essential workers.

That might be a teacher, firefighter or FIFO worker who needs to find a permanent place to live but requires short-term accommodation here in Atherton. It could also be a medical worker. We’re very short of doctors, everyone knows nurses are in short supply, and that also applies to allied health practitioners.

We’re looking for people who need a place to stay, who are essential to our economy, health and overall care, and who have moved here but haven’t yet found a home.

With a 0.1% vacancy rate, it isn’t easy to find a rental in or around Atherton. Even if you have the money to buy, finding a property is difficult.

If you know someone who fits that category, or someone involved in finding accommodation for essential workers, we’d love to hear from you. Essential-worker accommodation is one area we believe has been neglected.

One of the valuable things about our “House Without a House” open house was meeting quite a few people around my age, and even 10 or 20 years younger, who have what I call “empty bedroom syndrome.” They have a big house but aren’t sure how to redesign it so they can rent rooms as shared accommodation.

We know a lot about that, and we’d love to share our knowledge and discuss ideas. We’re not a rental agency, but we’re very interested in the design and development of this type of accommodation.

One final note: in the next video, I hope to have some information about our flatpack house, but there’s no news at the moment.

Thanks.
